“What’s the point of 30 seconds? It won’t change anything.”
I get it. If you’re used to thinking change only happens through massive effort or dramatic overhauls, then yeah, 30 seconds sounds laughable.
But what if that tiny window of time, just 30 seconds, is exactly where transformation begins?
Let me back up.
When I first got on a treadmill, I was hungover, sweaty and embarrassed that I could barely run. I wasn’t setting out to become a marathoner. I wasn’t even trying to “get healthy.” I just knew something had to give. I set the timer for 30 seconds and ran. Then walked. Then ran again. That small act, that tiny, almost ridiculous moment, cracked something open in me.
And here’s the truth: if I had waited until I felt ready, or tried to plan a full-on fitness routine, or told myself I had to run a full mile to make it count… I NEVER WOULD’VE STARTED.
The All-or-Nothing Trap
A lot of people get stuck here. We’re told we need to go all in. Hustle. Grind. Reinvent ourselves. We wait until we have a "perfect plan" or the "right time", and that time never comes. All-or-nothing thinking convinces us that small efforts aren’t worth it unless they’re perfect or dramatic.
But your life doesn’t change in a dramatic leap. It changes in a decision. A moment. A shift.
What If You Fail?
That’s another biggie. Fear of failure keeps so many people on the sidelines. “What if I can’t even do 30 seconds?” Or worse, “What if I try, and it doesn’t stick?” That fear is real. But here’s what I tell people:
You’re not committing to a marathon. You’re committing to a moment (well, a half a moment!)
Thirty seconds is enough to show yourself what’s possible. That you’re still in there. That you’re capable of doing something, and that something can build into more.
This is the heartbeat of my Dare, Do, Double Down framework:
It’s not flashy, but it’s powerful. Because when you shift the way you begin, you shift what becomes possible. Here’s your invitation: Don’t wait for the perfect time.
Don’t wait until you feel motivated.
Don’t wait until the fear goes away. Just begin. You’ve got 30 seconds. What will you do with them?
